Pouches and bags

Pouches and bags, ready to load

Pre-made pouches arrive ready to load and seal. We supply Tyvek®, paper, and foil chevron pouches plus heavy-duty header bags, sourced from qualified manufacturers in North America and Europe. Custom sizes, printing, and seal options are quoted per project. Standard items typically ship in 3–4 weeks; custom sizes and print take 6–8 weeks and may carry a manufacturer's minimum, which we show on the quote. If your spec calls out a specific material or part number, send it: we'll confirm whether we can supply exactly that, and we won't offer an equivalent in its place without your approval.

When to choose pouches and bags

  • You load and seal, but do not make pouches

Pre-made pouches arrive sealed on three sides. You load the device and seal the open end.
  • Your device fits a pouch, not a tray

Needles, syringes, catheters, small instruments, and kit components often ship in chevron pouches.
  • The product needs a high barrier

Foil pouches block oxygen, moisture, and light for sensitive devices, diagnostics, and reagents.
  • The device or kit is bulky or heavy

Header bags in 100 µm (4 mil) LDPE carry loads too large for a pouch.

The basics

What to know before you specify or re-source

What a chevron pouch is

A chevron pouch is a pre-made pouch sealed on three sides. You load the device and seal the open end. The opposite end is sealed in a V shape, called a chevron.

The point of the V is where the peel starts. Force concentrates there, so the pouch opens easily and peels back in a controlled line. The user peels the two webs apart from the point and presents the device aseptically.

One side is porous Tyvek® or medical paper, which lets sterilant in. The other is film, so you can see the device. Foil pouches use a PA/Alu/PE laminate instead, for a near-total barrier.

What a header bag is

A header bag is a plastic bag with a strip of porous material across one end, called the header. The bag body is 100 µm (4 mil) LDPE film. The header lets sterilant gas in and out.

Header bags suit items too bulky or heavy for a pouch, such as procedure kits and large devices. In EtO, gas moves through the header. Gamma and e-beam pass through the whole bag.

Foil pouches and EtO

Foil does not let gas through, so EtO cannot reach a device sealed in a foil pouch. Foil pouches are typically radiation-sterilized with gamma or e-beam.

If your process is EtO, the foil package needs a built-in porous vent, such as a porous header or breather patch, that lets gas in and out during the cycle and is sealed off afterwards. Ask us for a vented foil header bag, then validate it in your own cycle.

FAQ

Pouches and bags: common questions

All FAQs

What is a chevron pouch?

A chevron pouch has a V-shaped seal at the opening end. The peel starts at the point of the V, which gives a controlled, low-force opening and helps the user present the device aseptically. Pre-made pouches arrive ready to load and seal.

What is a header bag?

A header bag is a film bag with a porous strip, the header, across one end. The film holds the load, and the header lets sterilant gas in and out. Header bags suit bulky or heavy devices and kits.

Should I choose Tyvek®, paper or foil?

Tyvek®, paper or foil:

  • Tyvek® pouches give a clean, low-particulate peel and work with EtO, gamma and e-beam.
  • Paper pouches are economical and print well.
  • Foil pouches give a near-total barrier to oxygen, moisture and light, but need a built-in porous vent for EtO.

Are the pouches and bags made by CleanCut?

No. Our pouches and bags are sourced from qualified manufacturers in North America and Europe and supplied by CleanCut. We confirm each manufacturer's certification (standard, registrar and expiry) in writing as part of your supplier qualification.
